Last year, the annual Shanghai National Hombrew Competition announced its Best of Show Award - an opportunity to fly over to the States and co-brew with Stone Brewing‘s professional brewers. SNHC also offered category winners premium brewing ingredients for category winners, introduced cold chain logistics for entry transportation. But it was this BOS award attracted everyone’s attention.
Together there were 272 entries in 2019. After a full day of judging at Daga Brewpub, 8 entires from different categories were short-listed for BOS judging, among which was a Scottish Light brewed by a Beijing based homebrewer named Wu Hao.
When almost everyone is talking about sour beers and other extreme experimental styles, this somewhat “plain” Scottish Light in contrast had seemingly not much to grapple with. Little did we know that it would came out 1st during Best of Show judging. Credit goes into its delicate balance and flawless technical execution.
